Dining on Suet

Here is a red bellied woodpecker enjoying some suet.. getting ready for winter. Suet is good to put out for the birds in the fall and winter, helps with energy.. and keeps them fueled up for the winter. Be sure you have suet, seed cakes, or bird seed out for our feathered friends this winter season! ~Whitney

7 Days Til Spring

Well Folks, its 7 days until spring! I took this picture of this cute little Tufted Titmouse today... The weather is getting warmer, you may ask: do I continue feeding birds in the spring and into the summer months? I personally don't feed the birds during the spring and summer months, there are plenty of seeds growing in the spring... the summer holds plenty of bugs and weed seeds that birds enjoy.. How do I stop feeding the birds? don't stop feeding the birds cold turkey, gradually stop feeding them. Lessening the food in the winter months going into the spring and summer months.. Do I still feed suet? they do make all year suet, and if you still want to do at least suet or a seed cake you can.. I would not recommend  feeding suet or seed cake in the summer if you live in a really hot climate.. Water is a must all year.. making sure you have a fresh supply of water is important for birds to drink and bath.. ~Whitney
