Winters Coming On!

I know it has been awhile since I posted on this blog.. But just checking in. Winter is just a month or so away.. :) just this past week I have started to feed the birds again.. Looking forward to the winter season. Means snow, and birds. Be sure to check the past post on this blog for the bark butter recipe so you can make it for your fine feathered friends.. :) remember to put out suet, and plenty of fresh water. Food is important since birds and animals have a hard time finding food for themselves when there is snow on the ground.. Here the temps have been down in the teens. With no snow yet. Some places in the U.S have gotten snow already. So, go out and get some bird food!!!! and plenty of suet and make some bark butter.. :)

Just Checking In

Just thought I would drop in and see how things are going.. I have been busy with traveling and missions work that I don't have time enough to post bird pictures. Let alone take pictures of birds.. This picture off to the left was taken in the rollin' hills of West Virginia.. So hopefully meaning that it is getting near fall and getting cooler, I can HOPEFULLY take some pictures of birds again.. I will be checking back here now and then.. so please keep checking back.. ~Whitney

New Bird!

Well, just found out by one of the viewers of this blog that I miss ID'ed a bird today! I thought it was the returning song sparrow, but I was wrong.. it was its look alike, the Fox Sparrow! I looked both of the birds up and saw the differences, truth is; I'm not an expert!! :) But at least there are birders out there that pay attention!! Thank you for correcting me on this bird! I now added him to my life list of birds! ~Whitney

Snow Day in the South!!

I got the chance to go out and take some bird pictures! took this awesome picture of the fox sparrow, a winter bird that winters here. First one I have seen this winter.. I posted the other pictures in the photo section of this blog.. Check 'em out! ~Whitney

Snow!!!

Well, down here in North Carolina we don't get much snow.. So, when it does come its kind of a big deal.. Even a few inches!!! it started snowing last night and stopped early morning.. We got about 3 or 4 inches.. Guess its time to go on out, feed the birds and take some pictures later when it warms up a bit, right now it is a chilly 22 degrees.. Hopefully I'll have bird pictures to post!! ~Whitney

I finally got a chance to do a little bit of bird photography out doors today.. sunny and a bit chilly. I took some pictures; this is just one of them, a Yellow Rumped Warbler with a Cedar Berry in its beak.. Don't know how I managed to get this shot, and I didn't realize it until I put it on the computer and cropped it... I will put the other pictures on the photo section of this blog.. ~Whitney

Cedar Waxwings

Today there was nothing but Cedar Waxwings! tons of them.. I counted at least 7 or 8 at the water bowl today. For such pretty birds they are hard to photograph, they are so skittish! I had to sit all day with camera in hand to get the shots that I did get.. There were also Yellow Rumped Warblers and bluebirds along with the cedar waxwings.. I will post some photos in the photo section of this blog.. Hope you enjoy! lots of waxwing pictures. ~Whitney

Not much Birding

Since December I have not been able to bird watch or take any bird pictures.. It has been very cold. So this New Year is not kicking off the birding season like I would like it to.. Hoping to get warmer weather soon! one morning it was 9 degrees!! and only in the 20's in the day time!!! that is not good birding weather! although the birds were out; I bought them some nut and berry mix that day when it was so cold.. and they really love it.. I get that every year for them to eat on the side of suet and regular bird food.. Woodpeckers like it too.. Don't forget to check out the Facebook page to this blog! link is on the right hand side of the blog (Whitney's Bird Page) or just type it into the Face Book search bar.. Plenty of Guess That Bird and photos!! Anyways, I hope to get out there and take pictures soon!!! ~Whitney
